Living out your Single life for the Lord

When you’re single sometimes  it looks like everyone is in a relationship.

It  often times  looks like a new level of happiness has been unlocked for those who are dating.

It’s as if they  FINALLY passed over to the other side. They  have been healed of this  disease called singleness. * yes I’m exaggerating *

Well pertaining to this subject of singleness and dating , God lead me to 1 Corinthians 7 in which Paul was  advising the Church about the benefits of being single.

He basically said that as unmarried person you can devote yourself more fully to the Lord with less distractions, because as a married person you have more earthly responsibilities and your attention is divided between pleasing the Lord and pleasing your spouse.
32” I want you to be free from the concerns of this life. An unmarried man can spend his time doing the Lord’s work and thinking how to please him. 33 But a married man has to think about his earthly responsibilities and how to please his wife. 34 His interests are divided. In the same way, a woman who is no longer married or has never been married can be devoted to the Lord and holy in body and in spirit. But a married woman has to think about her earthly responsibilities and how to please her husband. 35 I am saying this for your benefit, not to place restrictions on you. I want you to do whatever will help you serve the Lord best, with as few distractions as possible.” 1 Corinthians 7:32
Although we may know about the benefits of being single, there are times that still discontentment tries to creep in. *eye roll*

We start questioning God, we start questioning ourselves and we start having pity parties about being single..
But as I read this scripture God reminded me that there are seasons for everything. For some people he felt like it was there season to be in a relationship for whatever reason ,but for some of us it’s not that time yet. And it’s not because we’re not good enough or because he is a MEAN God who doesn’t want us to have ” love”, but it is because he has his reasons.
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the LORD.As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8-9
.
So instead of spending time boo-hooing or feeling bad for yourself, ask God how you can serve him better with your singleness. How can you devote yourself to him more?
Maybe spending more time studying his word (not just reading to check it off your daily routine but STUDYING), serving in a ministry, missions, helping out single mothers with their kids, learning basic life skills, learning a new skill etc
Truth is Jesus is coming back , and I don’t want him to find me not living for him because I was distracted and sad about being single.
So let’s live for him and have fun doing it. Enjoy your single season because this is where God has you now. Every period in life has its good and bad. So look and focus on the good.
If its God’s will for you to be married he will do it in his perfect timing. TRUST HIM ! but for now continue to live your best life in God.

Love you,
Giselle A. Parris
