A heart of thankfulness.

BB1C3F66-0EF3-4374-809C-31E3CDB1DE92It’s so easy to just focus on what is not going right or as planned in our lives..

For example we focus on how our dreams haven’t been fulfilled , how we don’t like our jobs that we once prayed for ,how we want to give up on school or on how we can’t afford to buy a new phone…

All the while as we’re constantly complaining or feeling bad for ourselves , we forget to thank God for how far he has brought us,how he has provided in the past and most importantly for who he is.

Today I was reminded of this reality
as I was listening to Elevation Worship’s song “Do it again”.

There’s a part of the song that says ,” I’ve seen you move , you move the mountains and I believe I’ll see you do it again. You made a way when there was no way and I believe I’ll see you do it again. ”

With tears in my eyes(yes I’m a very emotional girl LOL) I said ,”Wow. God you’ve really moved mountains in my life and you’ve really made ways when there wasn’t any” .

Moving Mountains for me represents things that seemed impossible to me but have only been possible with God.

I then began to thank him for my job that I didn’t have a year ago. I thanked him that I actually had a metro card to get on the train. I thanked him that I had money to even pay my phone bill which I wasn’t able to do a year ago.

Well, I wrote this post just to remind you that instead of just going to God to tell him what is wrong and then going about your day , also take time to thank him for who he is and for all that he has already done. Don’t forget to thank him for the “little things ” which are actually “big things “for others. (Shelter, food, genuine friendships, health, family etc)

When we have a heart of thankfulness it helps us to view God and life differently. It reminds us that the same God that was faithful a few months/weeks ago is the same God who will be faithful in your current situation. It reminds us that last time we waited on God was worth it ,so it will be worth to wait on God this time too. It also reminds us of the heart of God and the character of God.

So today and for the rest of your life,
I challenge you to worship and praise God in your prayer time. You’ll definitely see a difference in your day to day life when you live with a heart of thanksgiving. You’ll experience more genuine joy and peace because you are aware of God’s character , his grace and his love.

Scripture references :

” Rejoice always, Pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

“I will bless the Lord at all time his praise shall continuously be in my mouth. ” psalms 34:1

Love ,

Giselle A. Parris
